GlitchHiker glitching out

GlitchHiker was created for the Global Game Jam 2011 - the theme of which was extinction.

In cooperation with Jan Willem Nijman of Vlambeer, Laurens de Gier, Jonathan Barbosa Dijkstra, Paul Veer and Rutger Muller, we created the terminal game.

The game had a capability to die on a worldwide scale. Playing the game badly would fasten its demise, but playing it well would heal it. The more damaged the system became, the glitchier the game became. This realisation led to interesting player response, such as doubt to play, a feeling of responsibility and guilt upon failing. The game 'died' six hours after the system was started.

GlitchHiker won the Dutch Global Game Jam 2011 Jury 1st Place award and the Dutch Global Game Jam 2011 Audience Award.
